According to the Daily News  “McLean delivered a seamless performance, singing “Jerusalem” and “Cocaine Blues,” a cover by Johnny Cash, and even a new song “I’m the Lucky Guy.” His hit songs “Crying” and “Starry Starry Night” were also performed before he ended with “American Pie.”

When McLean began to play the classic song, many rushed to the stage and the audience went wild, screaming, jumping, dancing. Multiple bikini-clad girls were hoisted onto the shoulders of others as they waved their arms while singing the chorus. Some even joined hands while in the air. Other people resorted to throwing their hands up or raising their beers.

McLean played the song at various tempos. The audience emphatically sang the chorus, some clutching their friends and dramatically singing it while others stood by themselves, mouthing the words with a smile on their face. Even after the song was over, the audience still lingered, basking in the afterglow of the performance.”

I wish so much I could be there to listen to Don and all those wonderfull songs he sings. Unfortunately, I’m french and living in France. The first time I heard about Don, I was studying at Temple U. in Philadelphia… It was during the 70′s… Back to France I was a singer and guitar player as well and I used to sing Don’s songs from his album “American pie”, and I still do today, though I don’t sing as often as I used to.
Hey Don ! Keep enjoying us with your beautiful voice and songs again and for years…

  2. Saw Don at Stagecoach 2014, and he really rocked the place. He was backed by a six piece band of good old pros who really kept the show jumping. Kinda nice to see a straight forward show by a great performer. Stage Coach has had some big productions that can get kind of busy at times. Don was great, paying homage to some country artists. After all, Stage Coach is a country festival. His show was flawless, and of course “American Pie” blew the the doors off, even when he encored it telling the crowd that this time, we got to sing the first verse. Really cool and great fun. Saw Don in Berkeley California in 1975, and to see him this many years later was really something
